Wood Floor Care Tips

  • Don't walk on your hardwood floors with spiked or damage-heeled shoes.
  • Don't use a wet-mop, damp-mop, or try to clean your hardwood with water or other liquids.
  • Don't use oil soaps, liquid or paste wax, or other household products containing lemon, citrus, tung oil, or silicon to clean wood floors.
  • Don’t use vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head.
  • Don't wax a surface-finished floor, and never use vinyl or tile floor care products on any wood floor.

  • Do vacuum or sweep your floor regularly with a soft-bristled attachment or broom, especially in high-traffic areas.
  • Do use floor mats in all doorways and wipe your feet to help protect wood floors from grit, dirt and debris.
  • Do use protective window coverings to block UV rays and excessive heat from direct sunlight from fading your floors.
  • Do re-arrange rugs and furniture periodically to help the floor age evenly.
  • Do keep pets’ nails trimmed and their paws clean to prevent scratches and dirt build up.
  • Do use a humidifier during heating seasons to help reduce wood shrinkage.
  • Do wipe up spills and spots immediately.
  • Do use pads when moving furniture or appliances.
